Los Verdiales

The Verdial is a display of popular Málaga tradition, of a country tradition that that dates back centuries. It comprises song, music and dance that predate Flamenco. The differences from the latter, on one hand, can be found in the numerous accompaniments of string and percussion instruments (violin, lute, guitar, cymbals and tambourine), which denote an Arab influence, whilst Flamenco songs are accompanied only by guitars and clapping. On the other hand, the Verdial is a song composed for dance, and the art of the singer (whose voice is often drowned out by the wealth of musical accompaniment), is secondary to the dance.

The Verdial is of important cultural interest, originating in Málaga and which includes in its legacy (passed on from father to son), all that is magical, primitive, pagan and religious, happy and spiritual in the Mediterranean culture.

The dress of the Verdiales group (Panda) is the typical dress of country folk, and this only varies in the Grand Verdiales Fiesta on the Day of the Innocents (28th December), when a straw hat is included, covered with decorations: mirrors, flowers, ribbons and beads.

What's on Inland is a website for the English speaking community living in the Guadalhorce Valley. Our aim is to provide current and local information that you need to make living here as easy as possible: local cinema listings, what's happening in the various towns in the region, street and location maps for many of the towns, useful phone numbers, links to useful sites and much more.

The aim of What's on Inland is to become a community website and we need you to contribute. Please let us know about any events that are happening in your town, your school, your club or interest group etc and we will ensure that they are listed. Pictures from local events are also welcome. We also would appreciate your feedback as to what you think of the site and what additional features you would like to see.

Advertising for inland businesses will play a large part on What's on Inland - we have a searchable business directory which will allow you to find local businesses and services. We will also be providing space for advertising on individual pages e.g. the Alhaurín el Grande What's on intown page.

Charities and special interest groups (e.g. animal welfare, environmental protection) will be able to advertise free of charge.

What's on Inland is a new and growing site – more sections and features will be added over the coming weeks.

The site will be updated regularly to ensure that we can bring you the latest information.
